For months on here this has been a burning question, who's better and who deserves the No. 1-overall pick, Greg Oden or Kevin Durant.
And the consensus on here has seem to overwhelmingly favor Durant, and those who do all point to the statistics.
Yes, Durant averaged 25.1 points and 11.4 rebounds per game to Oden's 15.7 and 9.6.
But no one ever mentions the fact that Oden missed the first seven games and played with his right (shooting) hand heavily taped the entire season. And for most of the season, Oden was shooting with his off (left-hand) including free throws.
Durant wouldn't averaged what he did if he had wrist surgery and had to endure the rehab process.
Sure, Durant is a great athlete, a great scorer, and fun to watch, but, he's not a complete player. He's not a great defender.
Also, no one mentions the fact that Ohio State went further in the tournment than Texas.

Defenitely Oden b/c it is hard to find good centers and that's wut you need to build a championship team around. I am not diminishing Durant but he is not the type of player that will lead a team to the championship (maybe 5 or 6 years from now).

I'm a huge Ohio St fan, so my biased opinion says Oden. But, after watching Durant and Oden last year, I don't like comparing the two because they play different positions. Durant is great from the outside, and Oden is great on the inside. If they played the same position, it would be different. Also, I'd have to say that Oden had better talent around him than Durant did. Just my opinion Texas fans. Durant put up some ridiculous numbers though, but Oden played on a more talented team.
Maybe my Warriors will trade for one of them and this J-Rich trade nightmare will end.

Quit making excuses for Oden he was cleared to play and it's his fault if he wasn't 100 percent. If he was supposedly that injured why risk injuring it even more so he can be a number one pick this year or next year, but who the hell cares he is the most over hyped number one pick in the history of the NBA.
Durant if he had the injury as you claimed has way more variety of moves, better foot work, better scoring mentality, better shooter, and has the ability to make clutch shots.
But Durant wasn't injured and so you can't make the comparison, but I don't think Durant would have risked injuring the wrist even more by trying to play.
Durant has the ability to become a superstar where as Oden will not be a quick fix for the Blazers, I don't see him averaging double figures until at least he's a 3-4 years in the league where as Durant can immediately since he can go inside and out. The reason why Oden will have a hard time is let's think about this shall we about the teams Ohio State played.
He didn't face a dominant center or power forward. He will have a hard time in the league guarding the likes of Dwight Howard, Jermaine O'Neal, Zach Randolph, Eddy Curry, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Tim Duncan, etc.... Sorry but Oden will not even be in the running for ROY.

If i'm putting together a fantasy team or drafting for a video game I take durant, no question. However in reality, the Blazers need Oden very badly. As Stephen a Smith says (and i hate that guy) you can't teach 7 feet.

Depends on the rest of the team.
If you've got Kevin Garnett, or another good scorer/rebounder, then go with Oden.
If you've got a good solid rebounding and defensive center, go with Durant
If you've got neither, go with Oden...because a dominant center is harder to find than a good scorer at forward.
They'll both be fine players.
