To make a quick and large profit. Some of these people believe that the iPhone (like the Wii a few months ago) will be a scarce item. So these people waited in line, bough two or three iPhones, rushed home, and posted them on eBay for twice their retail price. But you can order them off the Apple site so why would you want to pay more?

I believe some of these eBay sellers will be taking their phones and receipts and returning them to the Apple stores next week.

And I read that you can't use the iPhone's iPod feature without signing up for AT&T service. So effectively you're renting your iPod. I'll take a good ol' ordinary iPod any day. There's no monthly fee with it.

Simply because the demand for them is high. Remember the Playstation 3? It retailed for $599, yet on eBay you could see auctions reaching up to thousands of dollars.

It's because of the media hype Apple has managed to stir up, through paid publicists. The phone is readily available at Apple stores all throughout the country, so there's no arbitrage to be had. In fact, there aren't too many bids for the things on ebay, the only premium paid is the breaking of the contracts.

Just cause they're new.....
If you're interested in one...be patient...let the ppl that have the $ get em, and complain about the bugs.....then the price will evenually go down. I hope, cause I really want one.
