The rate of population increase is currently slowing. If the trend continues, the earth's population would stabilize at around 10 to 12 billion. Since the current population is 6.6 billion, the earth's population might not double from its present value.

The Earth's (human) population does not just double suddenly.

It just keeps growing steadily. So, if you pick today as your starting point, with about 6.6 billion humans, it will have doubled when it reaches 13.2 billion. This is predicted to happen in about 40 years.
