If I got a PhD in Electrical Engineering but only a minor in Business (i'm not sure if that's possible). How hard would it be to manage my business? How demanding is the career? What are the hours like? How flexible is your schedule?

I'm talking about a company like Apple or LG, Motorola companies that think up of the ideas and constructs it.

If your asking these types of questions, your not going to succeed as a CEO of any company. If your not willing to work 25 hours a day into your company, do something else.

When you own your own business, especially if it's a small business, you usually put in a lot more hours than if you're working for someone else. On the other hand it can be more flexible - if you want to go to the gym at 11 am every day, you can probably do it much of the time.

Are you talking about a company selling electronics? Not sure just how that PhD in EE would help you a lot there. If you're planning to do consulting, then the degree could help, but your flexibility goes out the window if you get a reasonable number of clients.

You really dont need a degee to manage a business, though it helps. Most of it is common sense. There will be some questions that will arise...all of them can be answered in books or on the internet. I have ran 2 of my own businesses successfully with no business degree.
