can I choose "all of the above"???? Each character was great in their time... but, if I MUST choose, here goes....
Radar, Winchester, Hunnicut, Potter
Fav Episode: When Col Blake went home, or the final episode.

I am probably the biggest MASH fan on the planet. So much so, I can pretty much recite the actual lines in most of the shows. I won't pick one person over the other because they are all superior in their respective characters. As such, they were all irreplaceable. Nobody else could play Radar, or Klinger , etc......
What I will committ to is this......the early shows, the beginning seasons with Henry Blake and Trapper John are my absolute favorites, hands down. As many times as I've seen them, they are by far the funniest compared to the later years when things got kinda preachy, but still good.
It was a sad day when Henry got killed off.......and Trapper went home. Those two characters left a big hole in the show. Granted, it was still a good show with Col. Potter and BJ, but not the same. All I can say is thank God for re-runs, I can always find MASH somewhere on the cable, and always look forward to the MASH Marathons. It's a classic show that still stands up after all these years.

Klinger
Burns
Trapper
Blake
I own the whole series but I definetly liked the older cast the best.
My favorite episode is where Blake got this new desk and Hawkeye and Trapper ended up selling it on the black market for meds. They tried and tried to sneek it out and then at the end Burns and Blake saw it attached to the helicopter flying over them.
I love how Klinger tries everything to go home, but I also love how Radar was always one step ahead. The series was very well written and well done. Luv it!

I prefer the first ones mentioned in each case, though all are tremendous talents. I enjoy Radar over Klinger because I enjoyed his innocence and naivete. The show lost something in its last four years. I prefer Burns over Winchester. Though they made the latter more of a multidimensional character, Larry Linville as Maj. (later Lt. Col.) Frank Burns is a riot. I prefer Trapper and Blake from a comedic standpoint.
Having said that, my favorite episode is probably the most serious of the early years--"Sometimes You Hear the Bullet." It gave Henry Blake his most poignant lines next to his leaving the show. He tells Hawkeye that there are two rules in war--one, that men die and two, that doctors can't change rule number one. Tremendous scene.
A classic show. Glad to see others remember it as well.

Radar, he's such a cutie
Winchester, he's less of an ***
Trapper, I love Hunnicut but those episodes with him got a bit preachy
Potter, he was a better leader than Blake
Favorite episode: the one where the guy who plays potter came (as a general) to inspect the troops, and he was crazy, completely nuts...lol that was a funny episode.

Loved all the guys for different reasons. My fave episode is where the soldier is dead and Klinger can see him. Made me cry but I also loved the final episode Goodbye Farewell and Amen they did a great job ending the show.

Why even ask? It doesn't matter which cast lineup you are talking about it is still to this day (IMO) the best written, best acted and most prevalent show ever.
Fav - Col. Blake's last. I was watching it at the bar a few months ago and it still made my eyes water.
