I was wondering why media calling portland trail blazers as rip city or jail blazers? any particular reasons?

About 10 years ago almost everybody on the portland trailblazers was in trouble with the law - particularly starting point guard damon stoudemire who was caught twice with large amounts of MJ. While he might have been the worst offecnder almost everybody on the team had something going on - thus the trailblazers became the jailblazers

It's the first time I'd heard Rip City as a 20-year NBA fan. But it't tough to hear these things from the bottom of the division or over the sirens!
I've heard of Jailblazers. I like that one!
Like Greg Oden was sentenced to 5-10 years with a chance for parole after 3.

rip city was dubbed to it when they won their championship with bill walton. Its just a name like houston is clutch city. Jail blazers is because of the fact that some of the blazers players like damon stoudamire, rasheed wallace got into trouble on and off the court. Really rip city is more a endearing term than jailblazers.
