IQ is more a question of ranges (based on statistical standard deviations from the norm) than straight up numbers -- and even then, it depends on which kind of IQ test you took. However, one widely accepted IQ range says:

128 and over Very Superior
120-127 Superior
111-119 Bright Normal
91-110 Average
80-90 Dull Normal
66-79 Borderline Retardation

Another range says:

140 and over Genius or near genius
120-140 Very superior intelligence
110-120 Superior intelligence
90-110 Normal or average intelligence
80-90 Dullness
70-80 Borderline deficiency
Below 70 Mental Retardation

In each of these systems, a 117 is a score that indicates above-average intelligence.

The Wechsler scales (e.g., Wechsler Adult Intellignece Scale, or WAIS) are probably the most popular individually administered intelligence tests in North America. By definition, the average score on a Wechsler test is 100 and the standard deviation (a measure of the "spread" of scores around the average) is 15. Scores in the range of 91-110 are described as "Average"; this range is exactly 50 percent of the population. A score of 115 is 1 standard deviation above average, and is better than 84 percent of people taking the test. A score of 117 is a bit better than this. Scores in the range of 111-120 are described as being in the "High Average" range.

Many other IQ tests uses the same scale, so this should apply to whatever test you took, although I would caution against reading anything into IQ tests on the World Wide Web. Developing an intelligence test is a labour-intensive, time-consuming, and expensive process that no web-based IQ test has undergone.

Average is 100, and anything over 120 is considered above average. You are at the higher end of average. However, many people believe now that success in life is determined by a combination of types of intelligence, including IQ and other things like EQ (emotional intelligence).

That would be the SLIGHTLY high side of average, but pretty durned close to dead-average and I am sorry to say it is not at all impressive. It used to be that IQ tests always averaged out to be around 100, but they are lazy about updating the tests and now the 'average' score is often higher than it should be.

It may also interest you to know that you scored high-average for your own hair color, assuming that your avatar pic's hair matches your own. When they did that 'I.Q. Across America' TV show, blondes tended to score something like 100-118. For some reason, they don't seem to test as well as brunettes and redheads.

it was a bit above average

the tests are designed to be 100 pts average

So that means someone else has an IQ of 83 and it's all you're fault. Either that, or a bunch of people have IQs of 99 and it's all you're fault.
