We have game days and family game nights. Also making a nest or a fort out of sleeping bags and blankets to eat a finger food dinner like veges and ranch dip and chicken fingers and cut cheese with a movie. Camping out in the front room would be part of that. I also used to get white paper on a roll-you can get it at target etc. cover the table and help them draw roads and houses and all the details with crayons. An airiel view of your neighborhood or an imaginary one. It takes a while. Draw stores and gas stations, police, bank, school, park etc. For matchbox cars. Those velvet big posters are fun too-each child doing a color or part of the design. Since you have a computer-let them go on Disney's kids site where there are games etc. I Spy books are great too. All these things are like anything else-teach them by taking the time to show them how to play. Have them draw tickets on cut pieces of paper and make up a show they can show you after dinner on a stage they make. Pretend time is important but children do not just learn to self entertain on their own-your time put in is well worth it-for behavior and both your and their fun!

This is a great time to "take time" to role play...my busy kids loved gymnastics. One was the announcer, while the other performed, and I was the audience (along with their chosen stuffed animals!) then we switched roles..even if it was just me & one of my children, we had great fun, & the excerise
helped their cardio, their self expression, self esteem, and- good old fasion "mommy & me time"
The awesome side effect is that they are much easier to settle down into a calmer/quitier activity a bit later on!
Also, I just cant fail to mention how wonderful plain old boxes
are for kids to play in, or do projects with!! I worked in a day care & was astonished of all the play time the kids had with boxes- let you're imagination (& theirs) take them awaaay..!
Ofcourse make sure you tripple check the boxes for any small objects, such as staples, & spiders etc.! Have fun!!

Simon Sez with alot of physical things...

Simon Sez do jumping jacks
Simon Sez run in place
Simon Sez do pushups

etc....it works with 6 and 7 year old boys and after 10 minutes they are at least a little less hyper

Then you can go for the less active, long-term things like board games, painting, etc.

On rainy days at school we used to play Tiddly Winks a lot. I think that was my favorite game we seemed to only play when we stayed inside for lunch :D Kids at my work seem to love to play Bingo, especially for some kind of sweet prize like M&M's or jelly beans. They also really like freeze dance & some bead crafts & coloring. Good luck with your search for fun :D

I used to build tents out of blankets and chairs.
I liked board games. (I loved board games, actually)
Coloring books, construction paper projects, reading, acting out plays, and occasionally television.

(I was a hyper child. This stuff didn't always work, but the first two usually kept me pretty occupied.)
