Sure. There is no god. Really, think about it. People claim that everything in the universe had a cause, and that cause is god - but then what caused god? How could god be exempt from that rule? It doesn't make any sense. And in light of how we can explain pretty much everything at this point, there's really no need for a god.

Her questions are just going to get more complicated from here. I suggest you give up the god idea with her like you probably did with Santa Claus. I always thought they were the same thing anyway - god, Santa, the Tooth Fairy - but then I found out my parents were serious about the god thing. Never fell for it myself.

I stump ppl, too. I'm 15 and still ask questions like that all the time. I even got an award for it in when I graduated kindergarten. I asked the same thing when I was little and they told me no one did; he's so powerful that he's always existed. Of course I wanted to know how that worked, but they said I'd have to wait till heaven to find out. Your daughter seems very bright, tell her to keep it up.

I would think an old saying fits here ( scripture?) " out of the mouths of babes ". That is not an imaginative question. Your answer, if any thing but the truth, would be.

I believe that God has instilled in us a quest to know him. From the time we are young, we need to understand how and why we are here, and how this universe came to be.
If it were my child asking this question this will be my response:
Say: He, God, is One.
God is He on Whom all depend.
[nothing is comparable to him]
He begets not, nor is He begotten.
And none is like Him.
As for the purpose of creation, our primary purpose is to worship God. As God says:
"I have not created man nor Jinn ( another of God's creation) except to worship me."
God is not created, no one created him, he is the creator. he created space and time.
Here comes the thumbs down.

John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word WAS God.

Asking about what happened before the beginning is as useful as asking about what happened "before" the Big Bang.

Best ask this in the Religion and Spirituality section. The most likely answer to your question is "Moses."

Tell her that there's no such thing and that 'God' as generally understood by the vast majority of sad humans is just a pathetic attempt to explain away the inexplicable. Tell her that people are arrogant to the point where they can't admit they don't have all the answers and therefore have to make up stories to help them sleep at night. It might not be what she (or you) want to hear, but at least you'd be telling the truth.
