In the film "Sleepy Hollow" Johnny Depp plays Icabod Crane: A detective from New York who tries to solve the mystery of the headless horseman. During the first 1/3 of the film, Crane disbelieves everyone's story of a headless horseman, even though everyone in town has told him the legend is true. Finally, he actually sees the horseman for himself, then he believes.
There is an important scene where Crane is lying in his bed, facing the wall with the covers pulled over his head and refusing to come out of his room. One of the town leaders comes to see him and Crane exclaims "The horseman is real!" The town leader replies "I know. I told you he was real...everyone told you he was real!"
Is the far left like Icabod Crane? Smugly insisting that the threat of radical Islam is overblown. Insisting also that they, by "understanding" and "having a dialogue with" the terrorists, can do a better job than actually fighting it?
Will they also hide under the covers when we're attacked again?

Yeah, I wouldn't have put it together with sleepy hollow if you hadn't pointed it out, but yeah...

No I don't believe they are saying anything of the sort. The thing they point out is that the number of terrorists has grown exponentially since we attacked Iraq. No one is hiding anything except Bushco is hiding the truth about a lot of things like attorney firings, WMD's, and some things about 9/11 and a ton of other stuff. You must be one of those ostriches with it's head buried in the dirt unable to see reality about your jingoist president and his evil puppetmaster.

Basing your political views on a Johnny Depp remake of a children's story... well I suppose it's no crazier than believing in creationism but that ain't really saying much.

*edit* Yes we had all picked up on that so now say it wiith me: Baad ann-al-oh-gee wee-th no bare-ing on ree-al-lii-fe.

Guess what I was trying to say to you is that the situation is too complex for a simplistic analogy (based on a crappy film may I add) to make any real sense of it.

Also if you don't "understand" your enemy then you can't really hope to win... hey, do you think that's maybe why Sun Tzu's first rule of strategy in his classic Art of War was to know yourself and know your enemy? Do you think that maybe the reason you guys are losing the war in Iraq (and the war on Terror more generally) is a total lack of strategic understanding leading to an inability to fight effectively?

maybe some of the far extremists... but not most...

I think the right is far overblowing what "radical Islam" is, often to the extent of blaming all of Islam for it... and everyone on the right seems to have a different opinion...

MEANWHILE... we haven't caught Osama... al-queda (THE GROUP THAT ACTUALLY DID THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE BOMBING OVER THE PAST 20 YEARS) is still VERY active in Pakistan and Afghanistan... and we're focused on Iraq...

and they are excusing it under this guise of "everyone in the Middle East is a radical Islamic fundamentalist" tag... while al-queda seems to only be growing?

ANSWER 1 (assuming you're somewhat rational)You do know that the headless horseman actually DOESN"T exist right? so this is a really bad comparison you're making and it kinda makes the opposite point from what you were going for.

ANSWER 2 (using your own "logic" against you)

Chicken Little said the sky was falling because something fell on his head. everyone believed him and ran around like fools.

G.W. says terrorists are going to hit us again, everyone believes him and runs around like fools while Bush makes lots of money for his friends and takes away those pesky rights like free speech.

I think my two stories are more similar and also the second one really happened, you can't say that.

Gosh this is so deep I can hardly believe I found it on Yahoo Answers.

These days, radical Islam is driven to extremes by American Imperialism. We need to get over ourselves and get the phuck out of the Middle East. They would be so busy fighting each other again they'd forget about us in no time.

What were the cons doing when Raygun was arming the terrorists? Worse than "hiding under the covers", they were praising his decision.

Your logic explains why neo cons still are idiotic enough to support Bush. Have you fallen on your head recently?
