Im afraid our situations are very similar. My boyfriend has a really bad case of cronic bad breath that doesnt seem to ever go away even when he brushes his teeth. At first, I felt bad and didnt want to tell him because I didnt want to hurt his feelings but I realized that I would rather tell him then have to live with his bad breath all the time.
At first I started off by subtly offerig mints or gum but even that wasnt a great improvement. I would let your boyfriend know that you dont like taste of his cig. breath when you kiss him. Hopefully, he will understand and clean his mouth before seeing you. He may be sensitive about it or hurt at first but in the end it will all be better.

I know what you mean!!! My hubby smokes and his breath is sometimes really, really bad. I don't smoke, so I really notice it. Your boyfriend is probably not aware of how bad it is. I am sure if he smokes alot, he has lost some of his sense of smell and taste. Just tell him tactfully. Tell him that we all have bad breath at times, but you have noticed his is really bad after he has been smoking alot. Tell him you don't want to hurt his feelings, but it really IS bad. Of course, then you have to work on keeping your breath nice, too, so he can't complain. Good luck!

I've had a similar situation but I never told him that his breath stinks because no matter how gently you tell him, you are still saying his breath stinks and it may hurt his feelings. So I tried the condition-response method below.
Try to offer him gum or mint constantly and when he does accept one, kiss him and tell him how much you enjoy kissing him when he tastes like mint. Repeat and repeat... this way he will gradually associate gum and mint = kisses and praises

Be overly self conscious about yours and make it known to him. Always place a piece of gum in your mouth before you kiss. Maybe once he tastes how good your breath can be, he'll do something to fix his!

Just suggest to him that other people can smell the cigarette breath and he can't. Toss him a can of Altoids and give him a hug and kiss. Try not to do it in a malicious way and he shouldn't get upset.

Hand him a stick of gum or a breath mint. You don't need to say anything.

Kindly and gently. Maybe give him some really special mouthwash, toothpaste, mints, and tongue scrubber in a basket?
