If you don't keep paying it then child support recovery will keep it going for you. They did that to my husband. In fact he was paid off in May and they put in an order for .23 cents that he was short in his check and so they started the order again to garnish the .23 cents. This was after he received a letter stating that he was complete and finished with his payments.

What do your custody/support papers say? All support/custody papers are not alike. My ex has to pay support until my daughter is 23, however a friend's husband only paid support until their child was 18. YOU have to go according to what YOUR court papers say, not by what you have heard.

It depends on what is written in your agreement. If it does not specify - then child support legally ends at 18 in most states. I know we have the same situation coming up with my stepson. What we have agreed to is to stop payments to his mother, but to pay his car insurance and give him spending money and a clothing allowance until he graduates. That way we are still supporting him and at the same time teaching him to handle money while he is still living under adult supervision. As anxious as you might be to end the payments - do stop and think about your son. Teenagers are expensive!

It depends. Some states require that child support payment be made until the child is out of school and others stop them at 18. Look over your judgment and when in doubt, consult an attorney.

I am not too sure of the answer, but who cares.... He is your child, I would hope you will still help support him until he has a successful job and doesn't need help anymore... just because he's about to graduate high school doesn't mean that he doesn't need your support!!! If you can't afford your kids, don't have any.

What a question. Gee, I'm sorry that you have to pay to help support a gift from God. Unbelievable.

Look at your divorce decree, it should be spelled out. A lot depends on what State your divorce was granted in. N.Y. used to be till age 21.

This is your child....not a car payment.

If he lived with you would you cut him off on his 18th birthday.

I hope he goes to college and you have to pay 4 more years.
