I was just cleaning out my skimmer filter today and I noticed what looked to be some sort of shell caught in the course media. It looked like a snail shell. So what could be in my pond? I live just outside montreal in canada. On further inspection, i found more than 20 on my filter. any ideas?

Possibly a common pond snail (spiral cone shell - http://www.thesnailstore.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=42 ), ramshorn (shell flattened side-to-side - http://www.thesnailstore.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=47 ), or trapdoor snail (spiral cone shell with "door" to cover opening - http://www.thesnailstore.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=53 ). If you purchased any pond plants, the snails or their eggs probably got introduced to your pond with those.

If anything, having some snails in the pond will help keep down the attached algae.

A planted aquarist worst nightmare, Pond snails. This little snails live in ponds in nature, but are caught in aquairum plants that are grown in ponds. You could get a plastic contaner and add lettuce and drop it in. Pick it up every day and get the snails out. This repoduce very fast. One can make millions and millions. You could cultobate them to sale for puffers. They will eat all miseaten food, but when overpopulated they can realy nightmare things.

Like Gamefreak said, Sea Snails. Probably came from plants you might've bought.
