That I was told was that you send them a registered letter, yes registered letter informing them not to call you again or you will get them for harassment. Then call them and tell them you want to speak with the supervisor and verbally tell him them what you sent in the letter. Now if it continues go to the Prosecutor and file charges of harassment. But you do every thing u can to make the bill collectors understand that if they continue to call, U will sue them for harassment
Make sure you make a copy of all correspondence with the bill collector. Do not let them intimidate you, threaten you in any way it is against the law. You can not go to jail, there is not such thing as debtors prison any more. The only thing they can really do is win a judgment against you and garnish you wages. .

I got a whistle a really loud whistle and when caller ID showed a bill collector (my-stepsons) I blew.Like you I couldn't get rid of a really rude bill collector. It's like they are above the law.I even had them call my neighbors and talk to them about my stepson. He told me to go work my corner to pay him.I got so mad,if I knew where he was I could have shot him. There has to be a limit as to what they can do,and the way they talk to you.No one has ever talked to me that way.

Well with the bill collectors, i would say pay them back, make small portions of the bill they will not continue to call if you make a agreement plans. With the ex-daughter in law check your calling ID and dont answer the phone.

inform them she is no longer available at this number and that they are not to call you further. tell them if they continue to call after being notified you will document further calls and report them to the police for harassment and the better business bureau. check the laws in your state in ref to collection agency calls. some states have laws that they can only call once a year... per account.

Tell them the person passed away. Do it tearfully and in a painfully fakened way just say....."he passed away the other day .....it's been so hard for all of us.....sniffle sniffle....have you ever lost a loved one? Will you be my friend? I need a friend? etc.. Act like a total psycho and it will scare the hell out of them and I promise you they will never call back.

They have been calling my Dad for 6 years for my ex. He has done the letters and even got an attorney. They still call. I'm going to star this and check back because my Dad is old and sick and all this just makes it worse.
Hey, everyone...good answers, please!

Ask for address and send them a letter stating they are not to call your number. If they violate that, they can be fined.

if you recognize when the bill collector is calling answer the phone, "allied fencing", or "allied towing". then they will ask, "is this a business ?" and you say, "yes it is. may i help you ?" they will say, "oh, i'm sorry i have the wrong number." and you will never hear from them again.
