Normally the state of agnosticism is not a choice. One states they have no knowledge and a word defining this decision is applied rather than one saying "I want to be agnostic, what are the requirements?"

The question presumes that a decision was required in order to become agnostic. In fact, being agnostic requires no decision other than one be semi conscious and aware of their surroundings.

Adopting a religion or other "ism" usually requires a decision to adopt the doctrines of that religion. of course there are those many cases where religion is accepted as part of a family or cultural heritage or as part of a fetish.

A willingness to accept that God may exist - but unwilling to push my beliefs on others. The major players have simply had a war of semantics for the last 1500 years with so little difference in the main theme it really gets tiring.

We all arrive at this, as of yet, unexplainable logical juncture, the difference is in the interpretation.

Both atheists and theists take a leap of faith, agnostics do not.

Theists, of which I was one, look at this juncture and leap to the belief that the unexplainable can be explained by inventing a superior being to ascribe the former to.

Atheists, of which I was one, look at this juncture, and leap to the belief that nothing exists outside of our sense perception.

Agnostics, of which I am one, look at this juncture, and simply don't make that leap, because nothing supports a need or a reason to do so.

in short:

To assume that some higher intelligence created it because I cant understand it is illogical because my limitations prove only that I am limited, likewise the universe's complexities prove only that it is complex.

To assume nothing exists that I cant sense is faulty and limited because our senses are faulty and limited.

Both atheists and theists take a logical leap that is not required given the evidence, whereas agnostics search for further evidence.

Great question. I rejected theism at an early age believing that there was no evidence of an interventionist god. But, then I became deist until I realized that there was no proof of a non-interventionist god either. I realized after talking to an atheist that she really didn't even have proof that there was not a god. The only choice left was to be an agnostic and remain undecided about whether there is a deist god or none at all.

In the pursuit of knowledge, I could find no compelling reason that required the presence of a supernatural being. Everything could be explained quiet easily without it.

Good question. I think what pushed me is that I was wasting time wondering if God existed or not so I decided to not think about it. I don't go to church either. If God exists I think he should judge me for my actions and not how many times a day I pray.

Same process that we all start as atheists.

When you are born, you have no knowledge of any religion. We are all born atheists. Religion and agnosticism are just muddying of the waters.

It takes too much faith to be an atheist.
