I Want To Set Up Like A 10 Or 20 Gallon Fish Tank In My Bathroom, On My Sink Cabinet, For Just A Few Fish And Some Bottom Eaters/Dwellers. I Want To Know If You Can Purchase A Cordless Filter And A Cordless Heater, Since I Might Be Afraid To Have The Cords Near The Water. Does This Such A Thing Exsist And Where Would I Buy It????? I've Heard Of Tablets You Can Buy And Put In For Oxygen And (?Carbonation? I Know That's Not The Word, But You Know), But I Don't Think That Is Safe, Have You Heard Otherwise? Can You Buy Those Under The Tank Heaters Without A Cord???
That's Like 3 Questions In One....Sorry
Thanks,
Summer

I'm not trying to be cruel.....I spend alot of time getting ready and what not in my bathroom and it's connected to my bedroom and I want to be able to be around the tank and what not. It's not a space issue, it's just that I want it there, where I can take care of the tank easier also. I was thinking battery operated although I didn't say that and if it's not good for them I won't do it like that anyway..............

It trips me out when people assume I am not doing my research on a pet question, I have always been a responsible pet owner and seriously done research on any pets I've had throughout my life. i plan on doing everything right, but have just never really had a fish tank set up and am needing some help.......It totally makes since that the battery would die out and you probably wouldn't be there to change it, but I didn't think of that before. I want to have a great tank that a fish would be happy to live in!

In so far as your cordless heater and filter, I don't think so. You might find something battery operated, but cordless? Um no. Electricity needs to have a path to power it, and you can't cordless that like a phone. Phones have internal batteries, I don't think you're going to find that in a heater or filter for a tank, and even if you did, unless you can stay home all the time to prepare for when those batteries might fail, it does you not much good to use this even if you could find one.

Oxygenation pills, yeah they have them, but if you're going to go this far, why not just simply get a small air pump and bubble the tank to get oxygen? That you are even considering putting a tank in your bathroom is leading me to believe you have spacial issues with your living arrangements. Heating packs I think you're thinking of on the third part, but they are mostly used for shipping, have a short duration of life to really consider to be practical for aquarium uses.

If this really is about space as I suspect, why not just try to do some creative redecorating, and think over the things that you absolutly have to have, and things that are just nice to have that you want around, but arent necessary. I'm sure you could find a small spot to put in a tank with a stand.

I know there are some battery operated air pumps, but I don't think that filters and heaters would be battery operated. However the tank is full of water anyway, so with it being in the bathroom, it shouldn't be any MORE of a hazard. The Oxygen tablets are for fish that don't seem to be getting enough oxygen from the water and I don't know anybody that uses those things. have you seen the toliet that has a fish tank in it? You need to check that out!

The battery operated air pumps only last about 10-14 hrs on a pair of "D" cell batteries - I have a few I keep for emergencies and have experimented to see how long they'd last. I'm not aware of any battery operated heaters.

If you want to make a set-up in your bathroom, your best bet would be to talk with your landlord and get them to approve having an electrician come in and install a GFI outlet (ground fault interrupter - see link about these below). If there is any water that reaches the outlet, it automatically switches the power off, and it can be reset right at the outlet (providing it doesn't also pop the circuit breaker). The disadvantage of these is that they can be sensitive to humidity, so a hot, steamy shower can also trip it. If you use one of these, use an outlet protector (plastic plug that fits into the outlet) on any unused outlets.

The oxygen release tablets are only meant for small tank and the amount of oxygen they produce isn't worth the price you pay for them.

The undertank heaters (like the ones made for reptiles and hermit crabs) only have cords, and aren't meant to be used in tanks containing water - the glass or plastic can crack with these from uneven heating.

The only power items you could find that didn't require plug-in electricity would require batteries, and fish are far too dependent on their heat and filtration to take the chance of a battery dying. For such larger power-load items, you would be constantly recharging/replacing batteries. You really must have plug-into-electricity power filters and heaters. Plus, for a 10 gallon tank, you really couldn't have but only about 2-3fish and for a 20 gallon, only about 7-10, depending on their adult size. Also, don't rely on chemicals, tablets or other additives as a replacement for good old regular constant care and maintenance of a tank. No tablet can replace proper tank maintenance and cleaning. It sounds like you aren't quite ready for the challenge. Rethink things, and as previously suggested, consider hanging up some plastic fish decorations instead.

EDIT: those toilet/aquariums are really a bad idea. They are expensive, extremely difficult to maintain and, after you allow for the plumbing, only get about a 5 gallon water capacity which biologically can handle only about 2 small fish.

A tank is realy not what your looking for. ITs going to just crash and there is not coreless electrica iteams in the world today. If you want a beatiful fish. You can get a 1 gallon bowl or larger. You can put it in a Cabinet, make sure its safe.OK fisrt go to a pet shop and tell them if you can get some cultured gravel, or gravel from a good, clear aqauirum. you need about 1/4 of inch. i will recond 1/2 of an inch. . Now a betiful fish for this bowl would be a betta. And for your bottom fedders you can add ghost shrimp.(the shrimp are very interesting).Make sure to feed the fish. If you have some money maybe you can buy a plant called a javafern or you can go with fake. Warning: the betta might eat a ghost shrimp. About 4 ghost shrimp is enuf. Now this is a good, beutiful, and no electricity is used aquairum bowl.ONe thing do make sure you bathroom is not very cool. LEave it at rom temperature or like at 75 F - to 82 F. Don't boil your bathroom etheir.

im with copper a GFCI box or a plug in box would work, it might trip the box alot but after a shower hit the button and go on, just make sure to use a self priming filter and you'd be good to go, it would be second nature, like turnignthe light off before you knew it. and i doubt it would trip to often, especailly if the bathroom has an exhaust fan in it. i personally think it would look good. you can put a GCFI box in yourself, just talk to the guys at lowes. basiclly you take the two screws out of the top ], that removes the cover, behind the cover you have the outlet. oh and be sure to turn the breaker off first. unscrew the wires and hook the news ones up to the GCFI box, they have instructions, and screw the cover on, a 10 minute job at the most. the plug ins are simpler yet, one fof those and a 3 way tap and you get heater, filter and lights.

If its going to be a cordless heater then wheres the electricity coming from?, I dont suggest you set up a fish tank in a bathroom, And if you really had to it would only be a betta in a 2-5 gallon tank that would be best, You can also get battery powerd air pumps. I have seen those oxgynating tablets, And i think there only for transporting fish, Why not get this fish tank? http://www.fishnflush.com/about.html#

Cord powered fish tanks are going to be safer. The cords (if you haven't notice) have this nice plastic (non conductive) strip around them. It is no more dangerous than having a blow dryer in your bathroom. Make sure the cabinet thing can support more than 200 lbs. Email me at nosoop4u@cox.net if you have any questions. Good luck!

you can get battery operated air pumps from most stores. i am not sure what the issue is with the plugs -- most power filters and heaters are made to be fully emersed in water. i have no clue what tablets oxygenate water -- its highly doubtful it would work that way anyway.

I just finished looking at that toilet aquarium link and it was the coolest bathroom item I have ever seen in my life. I just might get it when I get my own house haha!
