If its a 4T40-E trans ,it has no dipstick ,you can tell by looking at the top of the bell-hsg to see if there is a red screw-in cap, this is only for adding fluid. You ck it by removing the 1/8 pipe plug at where the right side axle exits the trans. It should be just drpping out with engine running,in park, car level

Prop open your hood so you don;t smash your brains in and you should see two dipstick handles around the motor. One will be the motor oil and the other will be the transmisson dipstick. Some transmission dipsticks are near the driver side rear or the motor. Some are more toward the front dirver side. They used to make the transmission dipstick handles red in color.

Anyway, once you locate this dipstick, you need to start the car and let it run a minute and then pull this dipstick out and wipe it off and then push it back into the dipstick tube, fully, and then pull it out again and look at it. SO long as you are in the operating range indicated on the dipstick, you are OK.

There is a \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ on the tip of the dipstick and this is where you should see the fluid level. The motor has to be running to get a proper reading on the dipstick as this puts the pump in motion and circulates the fluid. When the motor is off the reading will always be too high.

Add just enough fluid to get the fluid level inside the operating range \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ toward the top end of the \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\. Too little fluid and the tranny will slip and too much it will belch fluid from an overflow tube.

The fluid color will be reddish to pinkish.

Good Luck!

the dip stick should be on the driver side near the front of the vehicle facing the radiator. Start the vehicle let it run until the engine gets warm, check the fluid the stick will tell you whether it needs fluid or not. Start with a half a quart check the stick again if it still not at the full level add more. Always check transmission fluid while the engine is running and oil when the engine is off. Pull the dip sticks out and wipe them off stick them back in and then pull them out to check. It works better when you have wiped the stick off first.

Assuming you have an automatic transmission, your ATF level can be checked with the red dipstick in your engine bay... it is probably near the back. To get a proper reading, start the vehicle and keep it in park while checking the level.

If you need to add some, pour it down the tube that the ATF dipstick is in, using a funnell. Only add a quarter of a quart at a time between checking the level.

very odd that you do not see the red dipstick handle under the hood. Really odd that you had to remove the dipstick in order to add the two quarts of fluid??????

Yellow is oil, red is Tranmission

You must check the transmission when hot and idling in PARK.

Pretty sure it is over full if you added 2 qts of fluid(and that is bad!)

Have it looked at service professional and ask them to show you how to check it.

Read the owners manual on how to check and refill. Don't take random advice as a transmission repair can run into the thousands of dollars.

The stick you are lookin for will have the red (maybe w/ a flip top, lock) knob on it, for the tranny. I'd say should be on one side of the other of the engine. Since this is one of the front wheel drive models.

Good luck!

Lucas oil makes a special trans fluid. That will stop the slip in your trans. I think it is called limited slip trans flluid.
