Yes they can tell if she's sexually active, by giving her a pap smear. Her pediatrician can also tell. When I was 16 yrs. old my doctor did a pap smear on me because I started having sex & my mother wanted to know if I was pregnant & if I had any STD's.

First of all, learn to spell gynecologist.
Second of all, your daughter should not be examined without her consent. Otherwise, it's rape.
Third of all, the recommended age for a first visit to a gynecologist in the US is 21 (no, not 18 and certainly not 14) or three years after onset of sexual activity.
Fourth, there's no way for a doctor to determine virginity for certain other than (I suppose) a positive STD or pregnancy test would be an indicator that a person is no longer a virgin. Beyond that a doctor just has what the patient tells them.
A hymen (or lack thereof) is not a reliable indicator.

It's up to your daughter. Even though she is a minor, anything that goes on in the GYN's or any other doctor's office is completely confidential - just between your daughter and her doctor. I realize you probably think that with her only being 14 you have a right to know, but the only way you're going to find out is from your daughter herself, HIPPA Laws prevent the doctor from telling you. Why don't you sit down and talk to her about it, let her know that if she is sexually active she should go on the pill or something. Maybe if you sit down and talk to her about going on the pill or other pregnancy prevention methods she'll open up to you about whether or not she's sexually active because she'll feel more comfortable, and maybe a little less embarrassed about talking to her mom about it. Good Luck. :-)

Thats such an abstract question because the only way the doctor will be able toknow is to look to see if th hymen is still intact and even still she could have broken it on accident without involving intercourse. Many girls break there's riding their bike and falling or experiementing with mas+urbating, theres really no way of telling. If u r tryin to find out whether your daughter is sexually active I recommend that u just build a trusting relationship with her and discuss these things openly and honestly. This is just one of many things that could happen that she would need to discuss u w but wont if u dont have that trust anyway. Best off establishing a good relationship while u have the chance.

Your daughter has doc-patient confidentiality. She should be seeing gyno if she has her period or if you think she is sexually active. You should leave the room so that your daughter will be honest with the doc. It is more important that she is honest to the doc so she can receive appropriate health care than for her to admit to you that she is having sex when you already know the answer.
I had a very over protective mother who was very religious. Sex was a sin so was masturbation. I was told I was going to hell for having a vibrator and so on and so on. If she had just been open with me about sexual health instead of ranting like a lunatic it would have done me some good.
Be open with your daughter. If you dont want her to have sex, explain to her why. Explain to her what sex is. Ultimatly, if she is going to have sex, she will do it reguardless of your wishes. Wouldnt you rather she have accurate information? I mean take a look at this board. It is full of teenagers asking sex questions and getting inaccurate answers from other teenagers.

Tara662 is right, without a referral from a primary for a specific reason or if she has already sought services because she's having sex, any reputable GYN won't see her at 14. also, there is no way to determine that during an exam...and the doc isn't obligated to tell you, in fact, without her consent the doc can't say a word...
AND you're ridiculous...what's with all the GYN/,masterbation/porn questions? You are aware that we can see everything you post, right?

She is too young to be taken at 14 unless she has a problem or is definitely sexually active.
Secondly, due to doctor/patient privilege I don't think the doctor can tell the parents anything. I could be wrong though. You would have to ask the doctor that.

Yes, but as others have said, there are issues of confidentiality that have to be addressed first. Many larger cities have gynecologists specializing in adolescent care. I suggest you look for one.
Don't forget the HPV vaccine and a discussion of birth control. I know this is a sensitive issue, but you have to be realistic. If your daughter is defiant and oppositional, she is ignoring the risks of STD's and pregnancy.
Finally, do you know who her alleged accomplice is? Can you talk to him? My immediate instincts would be to secure the services of Tony Soprano, assuming he is still alive. But that would have very negative consequences. Perhaps others can suggest more ethical options.
