I recently had my driver's license suspended and have been looking for alternate modes of transportation. I have been looking at motor scooters and have heard from several people about the laws regarding their legality and the qualifications to operate them. To my understanding it is legal to drive a motor scooter that is approved by the GADOT as long as it is 49CC or under without a license. I need to find out exactly what the laws are because an arrest would be my life! Thanks for all responses in advance

plain and simply, u are illegal to drive ANYTHING that is required to have plates on it. this includes: all motorcycles, cars, vans, trucks, mopeds, scooters. mopeds are REQUIRED to have license plates and at the very least, a regular drivers license...even 14 or 15 yr olds are required to have a license to operate a moped on the street. look thru ur state laws, and they'd be very specifc.

if u get caught driving even a moped, u will be cited for driving under suspension at the very least, and u will most definately regret it.

It is a given definite that every State differs on these laws. For instance, if you had your Drivers License Suspended, you could operate a 49cc Scooter in the State of Virginia. I would highly recommend that you actually visit your Department of Motor Vehicles to check on the laws that govern Georgia.

Anythhing higher than a 49 or 50 cc would most definitely require a Motor Cycle endorsement since they are labeled Motorcycles via EPA/DOT. And, as you already know, failure to comply with State requlations could result in some hefty fines should you get pulled over.

Do yourself a big favor and check your DMV.

Good Luck

Defiantly need a license in ga.! Had a moped, 49cc. Could only go about 25-30mph without help, of course down hill it would fly. Recently went through a road block and thought I was fine. Long story short, I went to jail on driving on a suspended. $1,000 bond. Have to go to court plus wait another 6 mos after my original suspension. Dont listen to hear say, here are the facts jack

You need a motorcycle license to operate a scooter.
You need a regular automobile drivers license to operate a moped.
You only need to wear a helmet to operate a "razor scooter" (it's a gas powered skate board with handle bars LOL)
