become a teacher?I would like to be a elementary or middle school teacher. I did not finish high school but I have taken my GED. Since I do not have SAT scores or anything do I have to get a degree at a 2 year institution before I can enter a 4 year college?

I live in Georgia. What are the best universities to go to in GA for teaching? I have heard about Kennesaw State and UGA but I don't know if I will be able to get in to those schools...

Just take the SAT or ACT, whichever the university requires.

If you are smart, you will pay a fraction of the cost of your general electives by taking them at the community college and then transferring them to the university you want to attend. (call the university and find out which community college credits will transfer, and just take those.

After you take all your general electives at the community college, then you take YOUR LAST 2 YEARS at the university taking all educaiton classes.

Goodl uck!

I'm also in school to be a elementary school teacher, but I had a degree from years ago, and so all I have to do is take 9 education courses and then student teach and then I will be certified.

You should go to a junior college first, but you don't need to get an associates degree. Just work hard and get excellent recommendations from your instructors, and you should be able to transfer to a four-year school and be on your way. You don't have to take the SAT. I didn't. You do however, need to work hard so you can get into the teaching program and then pass the Praxis and your internship.

If you intend to work in a private school you don't generally need state certification, but it's good to have.

I will tell you to check with your local school board's personnel office. Chances are good that that they can supply you with everything you need to get credentialled. Most states DO require a four year degree specific to elementary and middle school education. You can enter a four year institution without an SAT. I retired from the military and was accepted virtually sight unseen.

You'd have to take the SAT. You could then go to a 2 or 4 year college (although at the 2 year then you'd have to transfer to a 4 year).

Once in college you have either a 4 or 5 year program which will include student teaching. You'd also have to take the Praxis test to become certified.

Good luck!
