palace when there are people in yorkshire have lost everything in the floods. I say put a bucket under the leak and get a cowboy in to fix it. However, seeing as her oldest son has visited yorkshire and spent a day there then perhaps all their troubles are over.

I asked the same question yesterday, after seeing the news on yahoo. But now I've found this out, I feel alot better...

In 2002-03 the Crown Estate paid the Treasury £170.8 million, in return for an allowance of £7.9 million.) In 2005 the Civil List amounted to £11.2m. Only The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh receive funding from the Civil List. The Queen reimburses the annual parliamentary allowances received by other members of the Royal Family. The civil list includes traveling expenses. The Royal Family also pay very hefty taxes to the Treasury.

It turns out that yes, they cost money and seem pretty useless on the outside, but they are responsible for more money coming back in than they cost. Plus, technically the properties they have belong to the state, as others have said, so its not as bad as the press make out. You know what the press are like, they'll kick up a stink about something and only tell you the things that back up their story!

If the Queen needed to repair Balmoral Castle or Sandringham House - she'd pay for it as she owns them as a private citizen. However, Buckingham Palce belongs to the nation, the Queen lives there as her London base because she is duty bound to entertain foreign digntaries and most of her royal duties take place in London.

The Queen is not a billionaire in her own right. Her personal wealth is well under £1 billion, she's not even a dollar billionaire, the lowest Ranked dollar billionire from Britain is JK Rowling who we;ve already discussed is richer than the Queen.

I am amazed at how many people inn England don't have a clue about the Queen & her finaces. She doesn't own Buckingham Palce and doesn't have billions of dollars. She is wealthy but not to that extent. She and her family have paid for repairs and upkeep when the other palce that caught fire. Buckingham Palace should be repaired by the government. They are the owners. To hear you all b*tch, piss, and moan over paying 69 p per person to pay for the roayl family's expenses is crazy! I wish I could get away with only paying that amount here in the states, my government is costing me several hundred dollars for NOT doing their job on a daily basis! Grow up and count your blessings, YOU COULD BE STUCK WITH GEORGE W. BUSH!

Maybe she's not as well off as everyone thinks. She has devoted her life to the country, good or bad and has to live with it everyday.

While people think it might be fun to play king or queen for a day or so, a lifetime?

Offer suggestions what the Prince of Wales should have done that the government hasn't done? Perhaps, the Prince might be able to light a fire under the government and get something done.

The elderly have to sell their homes in order to be looked after but the monarch wants a hand out. Let the family move out - the government do the repairs and then open the place to the public.

While the country has to find money for the Olympics not even the VAT is being waivered. And who collects the VAT?

The Royal Family are always seen to be sending out a messenger of sorts to be in the right place at the right time....it is something they do so well because they have had years of experience.
Who are we to say whether the Queen should be granted extra funding for the repairs on one of her establishments?
I would say, however, that the maintenance on such a building is more important that some although some assistance for her lowly servants in their hours of need would be greatly appreciated!!

To be honest I get more annoyed about having to read about chavtastic crap like the fooking Beckhams and how much money they make for singing out of tune and kicking a ball round a field.

And Taxpayers' money being wasted on keeping dole scroungers and illegal immigrants in the style to which they are accustomed.

I'd sooner spend it on a piece of British heritage and history, ta.

Buckingham Palace doesn't belong to the Queen. And she works harder than a great many people and certainly harder than most 80 year olds - including most of those who are as fit as she is.

Why the English people put up with the royal family is beyond me . The royals are nothing more than bottom-feeders leeching from people that in many cases can barely afford to feed themselves .

England should boot the royal family out on their asses , sell Buckingham palace and the crown jewels for whatever they`ll bring in , and distribute the profits amongst the citizens .

The personal fortunes of all the royal family members should be seized by the government and also distributed amongst the citizens .

Buckingham Palace belongs to us.
The Queen lives in it. Does she pay rent?
If she pays rent then we should pay but if not, she should see to the repairs herself.
