Agree with the above contributors, but there's some good one's missed out. How about Edna Savage, Julie Rogers & Susan Maughan. Then Elkie Brooks, Mica Paris, Maddy Prior, Julie Driscoll & Hazel O'Connor. More recently Heather Small and, perhaps the best of the lot, Beverley Knight.

Petula Clark was a MAJOR star back in the '60s, with a string of top-10 hits! I would say she was my favorite.
Close second would be Dusty Springfield, then Lulu and Marianne Faithful.

How about Alma Cogan, Anne Shelton, Ruby Muuray, Joan Regan, and Shirely Bassey from the 1950's ? Although, Ms. Bassey had her biggest hit, "Goldfinger" in 1965
