Coca-cola and secondly by McDonalds. Both multinational companies who have spread their empires to the third world are the most recongisable global brand, symbols that characterize the "West" imperialisation. Instead of widening our choices, globalization can seem to be forcing us all into the same shallow, consumerist culture -- giving us the same appetites but leaving us more than ever unequal in our ability to satisfy them.

As for Nike: "Sneakers made for children by children."

McDonald's / Disney
Linked to Six Cent-an-Hour
Sweatshop in Vietnam

Seventeen year-old women are forced to work 9 to 10 hours a day, seven days a week, earning as little as six cents an hour in the Keyhinge factory in Vietnam making giveaway promotional toys--especially Disney characters--for McDonald's. After working a 70-hour week, some of the teenage women earn just $4.20! At the end of February, 200 of the workers fell ill, 25 collapsed and three were hospitalized as a result of acute exposure to acetone.

Well if it's a symbol, it would probably be the "Peace Sign" or a Dollar Sign "$". But if a brand you are thinking about, it would have to be Mickey D's... Or perhaps even Walmart nowadays.

Apple.

The only reason I'm saying "Apple" is because it's nothing but a logo. No matter what language people speak- anyone can identify the fact that it's an apple!

I'm with J and Carpenter... Coca-Cola. Little babies around the world learn to say "Coca", "Coke" or something like that even before they can say "Mom" or "Dad".
