Just wondering if it is normal if he goes into defensive mode when i try to pet him or when i come to close, he rears up his tail but never strikes and he trys to crab my finger with his pincers, normal right? i mean he did just get here and is probably just adjusting. Also i havent seen him drink any water yet, is that normal??

Quite normal, remember that he would usually be preyed upon from above so anything hovering in from above, like your hand, will make him defensive. Scorpions also do not see very well so that will add to his nervousness. They tend to rely on air movement and vibration to sense things around them.
Fortunately, emporers do not defend themselves very aggressively but for their sake it's probably better to consider them more of a display pet.

A scorpion really isn't meant to be pet. He's more of a look at pet like a fish. He's always going to get defensive when you touch him. I know that people do handle their scorpions but that isn't say the best idea.

However don't worry about not having seem him drink. I've never seen mine drink and he's still alive.

I had a boyfriend in high school who got a scorpion. He kept it in his bed room. It was SO creepy. I don't understand why you would want to pet it, but...no. They don't, in most cases, drink water they absorb the water in the air through there skin. You need to keep a water bowl in the tank so there is a higher humidity, not for drinking. You can also just put in a sponge with water in it, in the tank that will work as well.
They are evil, evil little yuckies. What ever you do don't keep it in your bed room, unless you are 2 young for a girlfriend. I always felt that thing was looking at me. Yuck!

I believe this is the best line I've ever read to sum up a problem scorpion, that it's "probably just adjusting".

As the scorpion said to the frog as they drowned, " I did it, because I'm a scorpion".

Good luck with that.
