DS lite does not support the link cable. You can only migrate pokemon from your fire red to your ds copy. You can't go the other way around.

You transfer Pokemon from 3rd generation game to 4th generation by getting the National Dex and via Pal Park. All you need is Diamond/Pearl in DS game slot and GBA game in the GamePak and migrate at the title screen, then retrieve them at Pal Park on Route 221.

You can't use GBA Link Cable for DS because there isn't a place to plug the cable into, at least not my DS Lite, not 100% sure about regular DS, but I'm pretty sure that you can still use the wireless, but you'd need another system or a GameBoy with the wireless adapter to trade between a 3rd gen. game to another 3rd gen. game.

You cannot use a gamelink cable but you can transfer pokemon to diamond or pearl with just one system. You will not be able to trade to antoher GBA game however.
