I'm going to be 40 in December, and I'm planning to start trying in a few months (just had a baby in January at your age).

My husband is an Ob/Gyn, so we wouldn't be doing this if it weren't okay.

Good luck!

Are you asking is it possible to be 39 and have a baby or do we suggest at 39 you have another baby? If you are asking if its possible - yes unless there are health risks that prevent you from conceiving. If you are asking if we suggest at the age of 39 you have another, that's not something we can decide for you that is entirely up to you and your spouse. If the two of you want another child by all means do have another child but the older you are the more risk involved. Discuss this with your doctor and make sure you are physically capable of having a healthy child and there wont be any harm that may come to either of you. One thing you might want to consider however is the age difference between your older children and the baby you may conceive. My children are 11, 20 & 24. Its a bit hard for my 11 year old as her brothers are living in other states and she feels that void of not having her brothers near so that may be something you want to consider as well.

I am 39 (will be 40 in Feb) and am currently 17 weeks pregnant. I also have 2 kids (ages 10 and 12). I did need some help ovulating as that had slowed down a bit and we weren't sure if I was ovulating every month. I would go see a fertility specialist (no point in wasting time at this point). I used 1 round of Clomid with a shot of HCG to make me ovulate and here I am!

Good luck!!!!

Yes you can have a baby .... if you're pregnant. And of course you are better off asking your obstetrician about this.

After about 35, there is enough of an uptick in the incidence of Downs Syndrome that most obstetricians will recommend that you get a high resolution ultrasound (that's different from the usual kind) and amneocentesis to look for abnormalities. Not a pleasant thing to think about, but I did assume that you wanted a practical answer.

As for whether your body can handle it ... if you've kept yourself in decent shape and have a reasonable constitution you'll be just fine.

Congratulations and good luck.

Talk to your doctor. If you are healthy and relatively low risk with the exception of your age then go for it! Don't forget a 60 year old just gave birth!! Remember that the incidence of Trisomy 21 and Twins goes up as you get older because your eggs are older. If you are willing to risk it then I say more power to you!!

I have seen alot of women in the hospital that are 40-45 having there 5th baby.. so i don't see why not. If you are healthy and your body can handle it then i would say have your baby :)
I'm 19(married) having my first.. I hope when i get older if i wanted another baby i would be able to.
Good Luck!

Woman older than you have done it, but Doctor's say that after age 35 the risks for Down syndrome and birth defects goes up and you will be required to have your embryonic fluid checked atleast once, so does the chance of miscarrying(that's where the doctor sticks a long needle in through your belly button).

But doctor's say that with good prenatal care that it's alot safer now days than it used to be.

Here's a website that can answer this question better than I can.

(this page explains the test of Down syndrome and others)

It's okay and quite possible, but after the age of 35 birth defects become more of a risk than at a younger age.

Sure it's possible. You need to consult with your doctor first to see how healthy you are. It's also considered a high risk pregnancy and will more than likely have to be monitored more closely.
