Of course it isn't too old! More likely to be too young. Not a lot of people will take you seriously. But give it a whirl! It is not an age-impacted job, really.

if you mean like direct your own home made films and stuff then no, but like there is really no such thing as a working 17 year old director.

No, anything can happen you just better make sure what ever you plan on filmin you better be good at it
