Well I seen a couple of episodes at my friends house a few days ago (episodes 8,10,12, to be exact) and I am really confused about what the shows about, like I get that they are trying to fight spirits or hollows or whatever they are called, but I am just really really confused about the storyline. A lot of people say that this show is awesome and I think it proably would be too if I could understand the point or storyline of it! I read a few questions like this one on here but those didn't really help me a lot so anything you tell me would be great. And no, I don't mean stupid comments like GO PLAY ON THE 111 FREEWAY! (don't ask).

Bleach follows the lives of Ichigo Kurosaki, who is a high school student with the ability to see ghosts, and a shinigami (Soul Reaper or, literally, "death god") named Rukia Kuchiki, who crosses paths with Ichigo while hunting an evil spirit known as a hollow. Rukia is wounded during the ensuing confrontation with the spirit and is left with no choice but to transfer her powers into Ichigo. Thus the adventures of Ichigo and Rukia begin. Together they search for hollows and perform soul burials on wayward souls, cleansing the spirits and sending them to Soul Society. The early parts of the story focus mainly on the characters and their pasts, rather than the actual occupation of the shinigami. As events unfold, the story begins to delve deeper into the world of these gods of death on the "other side" called Soul Society

On a nutshell:
Kurosaki Ichigo can see ghosts, he saw them from an early age so it has been a part of himself. In a certain event, his spirit energy or reatsu is relased to the outside world and thus bad spirits or hollows, started to target them.
There is an organization that keeps those hollow in check which is the Soul Society. Members of the Soul Society are called Shinigamis or death gods. On that eventful day, Kuchiki Rukia a shinigami meets Ichigo. She is dumbfounded because Ichigo's power is strong enough to confuse her own abilities.
On that eventful day, a hollow attacks Ichigo's family. Rukia explains is because of him the hollow attacked. Ichigo tries to sacrifice himself so the hollow will just leave, but Rukia saves him at the last minute. Being too weak to fight, Rukia offers a solution: Ichigo has to become a shinigami.. Rukia transfers her powers to him, but later she realizes that he sucked all her powers. Now Ichigo has to do her job until she recovers her shinigamis power.

well, first of all even if i explained it 2 u it would take a long time.... so, it would be good to watch it urself then it would make sense, it is a good anime tho. here is roughly what bleach is all about,
Kurosaki Ichigo is a 15 year old boy that has an ability to see ghosts/spirits. Because of his ability, he is able to meet a female death god (a.k.a Shinigami) named Kuchiki Rukia. To save his family and friends from unwanted soul-eating spirits (Hollows), Rukia transfers her Shinigami powers to Ichigo. As Rukia takes on a human shell, together they solve mysteries involving spirits and hollows until from the spirit world comes 2 other shinigamis explaining that it is illegal to transfer Shinigami powers to humans and Rukia exceeded the time limit to stay in the human world. After they sentence her death for breaking the laws, Ichigo snaps and swears to everyone he will retrieve Rukia by breaking into the spirit world.
