I have a nice breedeing pair of orange sailfins and had a pair of dalmations several years ago. If you have troble keeping them, try adding a small amount of salt to their water - about 1 tablespoon for every 5 gallons of tank water - this is a level even salt-sensitive fish (tetras, scaleless catfish) can tolerate. If you don't have anything but the mollies (or other livebearers) add up to a tablespoon per gallon. I'd acclimated mollies to full saltwater conditions to use as a "first fish" in marine tanks instead of more expensive saltwater species, but I'm doing that with guppies now.

Also, give the mollies some plant material to eat from time to time (algae flakes or pellets, romaine, peas, etc.)

The biggest problem (as stated above) is finding homes for the fry.

I don't know what a mollie is but would like to learn. That is why I am here.

I have dalmation mollies and they have had lots of babies (fry) and succesfully raised some of them to adult hood. I think they are quite hardy fish, easy to breed and easy to take care for. I also suggest adding some salt to the water, I think there a great fish.

some can be a bit agressive but that's really dependant on the individual fish.
most also seemto flourish in brackish to marine environments
