how to change settings?

for some reason my pc is running in 640x480 pixels-16 colors. when i try to change setting to 800x600-256 colors it doesn't take. pc restarts back in 640x480. what else can i do?

check your video driver......or you video card might not support it.

Your video driver has gone corrupt or is missing. Try reinstalling it.
