My dad split an aluminum arrow with his aluminum arrow half way down the shaft. He had been shooting on a range and in the field for 25 some years and it was the one and only time it ever happened. He got an awesome trophy. Dang I wish we had kept it.

I have seen many wooden arrows split in that manner... If the myth busters say that it can't be done.. Then they have do-do for brains.... And any human being that has ever been to a Archery contest should know know or have seen it happen in some manner.................................... And that shot that happen in Robin Hood, Really was done by an archer shooting that arrow...... Just stop being so lazy and look it up..............................................................................................

If an arrow is stuck in a target, and another arrow with a hunting head ( like a knife blade ) strikes it exactly in the middle, of course it will split.

Maybe only the top part of the arrow, but the rest of the arrow would be left unharmed.

This was the subject of a very interesting video piece on the TV series "Mythbusters". Their experimental conclusion was that while it might be theoretically possible - it is practically impossible.

Yes, as long as you are using trick arrows.

You can't split it all the way down the middle, only the top part really and it is really hard to do even that.
