He has had his working papers since he was 14 and has never used them. He never has even started looking for work. He says minimum wage, is "too low" for him, but it is decnt for a 15 year old. I let him use my credit card number on ebay, he sometimes buys electronics from thrift stores and resells them. But, I don't think its a good living to make.

He has had a chance to work at a local walmart, but he declined.

First, take the credit card away. Second, he may not really know where to begin. Ask him where he would ideally like to work, given his options. Perhaps an electronics store. Then, go down there with him to pick up an application and help him fill it out. Then help him turn it back it in. At the very least, he now knows how to fill out an application and how the process works. He also knows that you support him 100% in this endeavor. From then on out, it can basically be up to him.

This is if you really want him to get a job which I think is a good idea it will teach him how to be an adult. He lost his childhood when we started using you credit card on E-BAY
Don't let him use any money of yours, Be Firm DON'T GIVE IN!
Say the only way you can buy things now is with your own money. Clothes and Food you get but some clothes he should buy.
He will find himself not being able to go on eBay and not having very many clothes that will force him to get a job.
Again be firm don't give in or he will walk all over you. If mom can you just buy this on eBay or whatever and you do, he will never get a job you say no. You have to pay yourself.

Good Luck BE FIRM.

Tough one because all early teenage boys have all the world's answers, and we're just stupid hardworking adults who don't know anything. Oops, sorry about that. I raised a teenage boy myself once, can you tell?

Your mistake (sorry, but true) is letting him have the credit card to buy things so he can resell them or whatever he wants to do with them. He couldn't do anything without your credit card. He needs to understand that HE has to provide the means for the initial money. He can get a low-paying minimum wage job ONLY for the initial money, then if he is so successful at buying and selling, he should be able to quit his job and live off the money he makes buying and selling.

But, you have to get firm with him. He needs to find a way (a job) to get that initial money first. You can't keep giving it to him, or he'll never see that he's not really successful because you are the reason he can survive without working.

Once you stand firm on it, he'll go out and get a job with other dreamers his age, and believe me, they are all out there together working hard at minimum wage talking about how they're gonna strike it rich. Then, as they get older, they start to 'get it.'

Why dont you tell him to maybe put an ad in craigslist.com maybe he can do little jobs around the neighboorhood during the summer instead of working at Walmart that might be too over welling for a 15 yrs old. That way he can get a little extra money & he ses thats its cool to have his own money instead of asking you then tell him maybe he can get a "real" job

A fifteen year old shouldn't have to "make a living". He should be focusing on his education, so that when he graduates from college he can support himself. If he's smart enough to but and sell on eBay, you should encourage his entrepreneurial talents. Then maybe he won't have to waste his life working at WalMart or some other dead-end job.

WTF? I just turned 14 and my sister won't let me work! I want to put it on my resume for future jobs and for my college application and I'm not even in high school yet. Tell him that it's not just money he's paid. He could get job recomendations in the future for better jobs.

PS Tell him that wal mart has a really good paycheck. I mean they sell shoddy stuff made by chinese people who work for pennies an hour! And people wonder why the stuff is cheaper than it's worth despite the fact it's 3rd rate.

Tell him whatever amount of money he makes a week you will give him that much too. Then he will work for money and then learn to work. After a while you can cought the amount to a 3rd of what he makes a week and then on the last step give him $0.

I think you should not leave him use tour credit card. A fter a while he will realise that he has no money to do things like go out with friends and if you dont give it to him then he will need a job!

Do not give him any money for anything and increase his chores around the house. Do not buy him a car or a cell phone or cds or ipod or anything else - all those things are luxuries that he should pay for himself. And do not let him use your credit card.

You have made it too easy for him.

I just dont think thats his ideal job.

If there is a radio shack, or best buy or something i bet he will like that it seems right up his alley. Tell him he will be able to recieve discounts to the place that he works, plus get money and he can save it to buy a car :]
