From a financial perspective it makes a great deal of sense for the Cubs.
I never understood why a team that was about to be sold would add 136 million dollars to their long term debt. Then add in Lee & Ramirez to that figure and you wind up with 276 million dolars in long term debt.
So the Cubs get rid of 12.4 M Zambrano & 136 M Soriano and their 148.4 M contracts and pick up Damon & Matsui for 52M each + the value remaining on their current 2007 seasons contract
52+52 + 6.5 +6.5 =115M for a savings of 33M
But as important as that is , It's more important that the Cubs also get rid of their long term obligation to Soriano. Matsui's and Damon's contracts expire in 2009 which would increase the Cubs attractiveness to a potential buyer.

they should but it will never ever happen ur dreaming and hearing the typical yankee rumours. soriano signed an 8 year deal with a no trade clause i believe, u dont sign for 8 years and asked to be traded in ur first, hes staying, and if zambrano doesnt have a no trade clause he still wont be let go because he is the only thing a sputtering cubs team has.

The Cubs are just 1 game under .500, they are in 2nd place in a week division, and only 7.5 games back of Milwaukee. They've won six games in a row and are getting right back in the middle of the playoff hunt. Why the heck would they trade away their best pitcher and best hitter?
Soriano has been tearing it up in June, hitting over .300 with 11 HR.
Zambrano has gone 4-1 over his last 5 starts and hasn't given up more than 2 runs in any of those games. The one loss he did have he only gave up 1 run.
The Cubs will not be dumping any of their stars. If anything they will be adding players, maybe a trade for one of Atlanta's young catchers or they might make a move for a closer.

Soriano > Matsui and Damon combined.
It would be a HUGE downgrade if the Cubs accepted that trade. It won't happen. Keep dreaming.

Im a yankees fan and as much as i like them, i think it would help the Yankees. They need a starter like Zambrano in their rotation right now. Soriano's offense would only add to the potential that the Yankees line up has.

This trade wouldnt happen, considering the Cubs just spent $130 million on Soriano this past offseason.

The Yankees would in a heartbeat but the Cubbies have no intentions on doing it. That would be a disaster for the Cubs.

Absolutely not. Now if they want damon for Soriano that's different. i never wanted him gone from the Yankees in the first place.

If the Cubs accepted that trade, it would give everyone else that doesn't hate them already a reason to. Give up two good players for two bad players. Give me a break, don't worry yankees fans, ... both of you...., your money man will just ante up at the end of the season and get a few all star pitchers, just for them to come to NY and underperform for ALOT of money.

sure...only problem is why would the Cubs make that trade? Why would they trade away 2 young & talented players, for players that are in their mid thirties, one of which has all kinds of injury problems.
The trade doesn't help Chicago at all.
