I will be speaking with an attorney soon concerning a 10 year lease I signed (stupidly) with Dominion Gas on 150 acres of mineral rights I own a share in. I feel the lease contracts used by gas and oil companies are unconstitutional and criminal and must be changed.

The reason for creating the Constitution is IN the Constitution.

"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity do ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America."

How do you feel the contracts are unconstitutional? Generally speaking, the Constitution doesn't cover much contract law. I'm curious as to what you think may have been violated.

As for reasoning behind the constitution, a poplular source is the Federalist Papers. Be aware that this is a long collection of articles arguing for the adoption of the constitution and do not really cover the Bill of Rights which was created later. Similarly, I really like Madison's notes on the constitutional convention for getting an inside look at what the founding fathers were really thinking. It's a huge book and also doesn't cover Bill of Rights information.

I recommend reading the Federalists Papers, which are a series of articles written in defense of the Constitution by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay.
