The sound of a neighbour clearing the throat ...haghrrrrr, ghgharrr...and nose: snzzrrreee....snzzreee while he's busy with his daily routine at 5:30 am in his toilet which I'm sure is waking up the whole neighbourhood. I dont need an alarm clock to wake up!! would be interesting to record this sound for a mobile phone ring tone!!!

The other most annoying sound is when finger-nails scratch a smooth wall -I dont know why it could be the next question

Kids who scream ALL DAY LONG - especially in pools. I mean, really, I have kids and I know the sound of kids playing and this ain't it! Last night at 10:30 my neighbors 15 year old along with a bout 5 friends were playing basketball and screaming. Comon parents - teach your kids to respect others. There is a time and place for everything.
Also - people who insist on talking on their cell phones in public like in a theater or during a graduation ceremony. Again - comon people have some class already. No one is interested in what you have to say! Goes back to the parents not teaching the kids to have respect for others. That is what I find annoying!

The sound that clamps down on my nerves is the little smacking sounds when 2 people kiss. Particularly when it's repeated over and over. Like when you're in public waiting in line for something and the couple behind you in line won't stop continually kissing between sentences. That sound always brings out anger in me and I don't know why.

I also get annoyed from the smacking sounds of someone chewing with there mouth open or the smacking sounds from a dog licking itself.

Hi There,

There are a lot of things that coud annoy me especially when i am concentrating to do something. However this example takes the cake.

Everyone will occasionally face hardship and have their own way of handling things. Even in buying products or taste of food will differ from each individual.

Occasionally you will encounter someone who unfortunately was deemed to be human by birth, commenting that they are better, their choices are flawless, their everything is the best and they only deserves the best.

When you look at that person and happen to realise that that person has nothing all that great, everything is given to them because people do not like to hear their silly irritating voice, and agree to their suggestions just to shut them up. Worst of all you discovered that you are married to this know it all's daughter. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes.. Its the sound of the mother inlaw bragging and trying to correct everything because whatever that she did not choose or pick is a bad choice. And what ever that happens around her must be about her and its is paramout that she knows everything. Bla bla bla.

THAT is the most annoying sound in the world because you know for a fact that it is silly to deck her, stupid to correct her and awfully wrong to agree with her. All you can do is just ./ignore and hope that the wife do not turn to be like that.
Do you feel that annoyance yet?

Most of the sounds people listed are annoying and somewhat loud. Or least loud if directed into your ear, like a buzzing fly/gnat. But to me, the sound that makes my skin crawl is... the sound of nails on the interior of a car roof.

That is a bit strange, but to me, it is even worse than nails digging, scritching agianst a chalk board. That rough, jagged scraaa-aaa-aaa-tctctch just makes me shudder. I can feel it all the way down my body, like my ears are encased in soft foam and rats are eating it away, closer and closer to me. No other sound I have ever heard makes me shake and twitch the way nails dragging across the fuzzy upholstery of a car does.

Just describing it makes me shiver and roll in my seat. Ew. Just ew. I need to stop now and go listen to something pretty, some soft music.

Mike:
Most annoying sound in the world>that Muzak they play in elevators and grocery stores waiting rooms etc!. Its some canned old rock or pop songs, redone do make it syrupy- suicidally unrecognizable. The only option is to pack an iPod or similar gadget, plug in and block it out. I realize there are mass marketing reasons for playing this stuff, but the damage is incredible. Something like sound!! is being deliberately piped into our brains when music is supposed to be soothing, moving, reviving, awakening,soul-bending...but shopping? What does shopping or trapped in an elevator have to do with.. Muzak?? Oh ya Mike, it makes ME feel very annoyed. ( I take my mp3 everywhere, even if its just to put on noise reducing headphones ...even just to enjoy the sound of quiet)

When my husband plays a handheld video poker game, he has to have the sound on. All the blips, beeps, burps and brrrrrrrrrrrs drive me straight up the wall. When I ask him to turn off the sound, he complains that it isn't as fun without the sound. I really can't say which is more annoying, the sound of the game, or his nasty attitude about my request! This morning he did it until I have a horrible headache. I've just about had it and I'm thinking of hiding the game and hitting him for asking where it is! Imagine a 56-year-old man behaving that way, knowing it's driving me up the wall and giving me a headache. AAAAAAAArrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

The sound of somebody chewing with their mouth open and trying to talk with their mouth full...I'm freakin' hard of hearing some days when my ears are draining, anyhow, let alone having to play the guessing game to try to figure out what they're saying and get all grossed out because you can hear all the slosh going on in their mouth! ICK!

Alarm clocks also peev me really badly, there's nothing like being in a deep deep sleep only to wake up wide eyed and panicked because you were dreaming that there's a fire from hearing the alarm in your sleep.

Another one for me is hearing moaning coming from a bedroom, no matter who it is, it's awkward and annoying...that explains itself...but you never know whether it's a backrub or a dirty rub...

The single most annoying thing in the world is gum. You can hear every single little smack and click, and there is that nasty swishing sound of saliva being pushed through the teeth. The mouth is gross like any other moist cavity can be gross (think about it) and it is no treat to have to hear it, especially if the person snaps or pops their gum. In fact, I find it torturous... inescapable rudeness, and if you ask the person to stop they often do it all the more. ARGH! It has brought me to tears on dozens of occasions!
