Most people who closely follow Paris Hilton and Chris Benoit/WWE can't find Iraq and/or Afghanistan on a map, much less a catastrophe like Darfur(Sudan). If you can't find it, then there can't be a problem, right?

It all comes down to education and priorities, which are neither valued nor organized, respectively, in the US anymore.

Well I think in the Benoit case the Media attention is warranted because he murdered an innocent child and his wife the most horrible way. And if steroids were involved then something needs to be done with the whole WWE.
It is a legitimate News story.

Paris Hilton is not . Her interview with Larry King and the hours upon hours of news coverage after were just plain ridiculous. What a waste of time!
I wish the Media would just be done with her and her family and stop trying to cram it down our throats.
I have no idea why anyone would be obsessed with this story but I feel it's more the Media wanting to turn a buck.I say we should turn them off!

I really dont know why people are obsessed with Paris Hilton but people are not obsessed with Chris Benoit.Paris is on the news EVERYDAY.Chris Benoit deserved to be on the news the past couple days. Many WWE fans are taking this harshly and are trying to cope with this huge loss.As a wrestling fan,it has been very hard on me learning what he did and knowing I wont be seeing him every Tuesday night. So,yes people are dying and the U.S is trying to help that, but no one should be asking why people are so obsessed with the Benoit case, because it's only been on the news a couple of days.

People DIED in the Benoit case too, including a child. That's why Benoit is on the news. As for Paris Hilton, she wastes everyone else's oxygen and is a waste of space. News should be given over to deaths, but not to an air-headed blonde who thought that only serving half her sentence was "harsh" on her.

RIP Chris, Nancy, and Daniel

People are very aware that their are people dying. But I think the obsession with these types of reports is because people just want an escape from all the bad things that are happening in the world.

WHY?? because it is HOLLYWOOD// Hilton is money , the poor little rich girl Benoit is this big bad guy who enjoys beating up people & people are to stupid to reailize that he is a actor to. I use to be a fan until the SHIEAK & SARGENT SLAUGHTER got picked up in the same car togeather in NJ for speeding & I had seen them beating each other the night before , then found out they had the same agent. That did it for me. people just like phonies

Escapism. People become obsessed with the lives and issues of celebrities and can then ignore the real problems of the day.

Because Some or many people rarely look down while
walking on their way to by ice cream & etc., for "themselves",
Therefore one or more "ants" that do not seem important to
them lose their lives under their feet !
Selfishness is the problem .

Tabloid material and famous people are always favored over the sad reality of the unknown, even when they are dying..
