Now i myself am not pregnant, I had my baby in April, My sister in law is due in Aug. Now with her last baby she was always over exagerating and every day saying she was in labor, went to the hospitol about 10 times before the real thing. Anywho she is sched to have a c-sec in the 29th, she has already gone in twice, she said the last time she was having contractions and she SAID they told her she was in active labor, but yet sent her home. Now her Dr told her that she wanted a csection done before going into active labor. Now i just want to make sure, dont you have to be dialated to a 4 before considered active labor? Dont you think she would have had to stay to have the c-section if she was infact in active labor? My husband (her bro) is worried about her, im trying to explaine to him she is just over reacting. And that she is not in labor she is just haveing what most all moms have braxton hicks. And is just paranoid and she always wants attn. Does this sound like she is over react?

Actually you don't have to be any % ddilated to be in active labor, you need regular, steady productive contractions!
Why the sudden c-section?? And NO the Dr would NOT have sent her home in labor if there is a medical reason for her to be sectioned! Have someone talk to the Dr with her next go round, she sounds like a true pain in the tail! First one out of FEAR, I totally understand, but this is a second baby, and she is playing childish games! Whats going to happen to her when something really is wrong???
Give her the story about the little boy who cried wolf!!
Tell your hubbie not to worry, she is getting medical care, and a Dr. is not willing to risk his Lsc. over sending a lady in labor who needs a c-section home!

PS..I had a fever of 118 when I was 7..I didn't want to go to school so I put the thermometer into a scalding cup of coffee!!

There are many different points in active labor. Strong contractions 3 minutes apart lasting more than a few hours and only getting stronger is considered active labor in my hospital.

I was in labor for 43 1/2 hours. From the time that my water broke until I reached 5 CM was nearly 30 hours. I wasnt dialated to 4 for a lonnng assed time, but let me assure you that the labor was active.

Personally, I think your sister in law is a little cookey, or else the hospital is, if she were truely in active labor and couldnt survive a v-bac she would be monitored at the hospital.

I would recommend walking and breathing through contractions. I was induced and had 30 hr. labor it was hell but whenever I could use the restroom i made sure I walked around for at least 5 min. it actully helped relieve my pain. I had the epidural when I was 6-7 cm or something like that but after I got the epidural (i had problems and it didn't work properly) anyway after that I dialated very quickly within an hour and a half I was pushing and I only pushed for about 40 min. with plenty of breaks. the catheter did not bother me it was fine. My epidural only worked on the right side of my body and it was a little weird being able to walk with one leg and the other a little numb but it was fine and I got used to it right away. Good luck. The hard part of parenting begins after you give birth but it's so worth it.

Wow that sounds like a fun one to deal with..LOL No, she couldn't have been in active labor or they wouldn't have let her go home..especially since she's still a ways off from her due date. They will try to avoid her going into labor though if she's having a c-section but that can't always be prevented..it's just safer. In my case I went into labor 3 times before the planned c-section dates.

she is not in active labor. they would have made her stay there if she was. she just wants everyone to pay attention to her. and the fever thing he would have been died. they need to learn something about the medical problems before they go telling anyone that they are stupid. they are stupid. I am in medical and have been a long time and they need help. tell your husband that she is OK and the baby will come when it wants or on the day they say. good luck to you.

Yes, she's over exaggerating. You have to be 5cm to be considered in active labor, and they *wouldn't* have sent her home if she was. She's just a complusive liar, so ignore here.

As to the 114 degree fever someone else in that family claimed to have: Sorry, but if they were that hot, they would've died. A fever higher than 107 kills.

there is a big chance that she is being dramatic and over exaggerating. however, you dont know what she is feeling and its unfair for you to accuse her of that, especially to her family. you should just be supportive... which is important for pregnant women.

i started my labor contractions 3 days before giving birth and was sent to the hospital when i was only 3 cm dilated (3rd day).
every woman (& every pregnancy) is different.

she probably does not have any tolerance for pain. i was actually told that if i go to the hospital too early in my labor, they would send me back home until i'm 5 min apart, hence, why i waited for 3 days at home before going to my doctor.

You are right, she is exaggerating! When I was in active labor, there is no way I would have been able to go home, it is just one contraction after the other.

My doctor told me 4cm was active labor. That's when I got my epidural. Good Luck with the Crazies!

Sounds like she is an attention seeker!
They wouldn't send her home if she was in active labour!
