I take a bleach pen to my white shoes, it cleans the soles up quite nicely

Dude, why would you clean your soles? They will turn black every time you step out and walk. The only way to not get them dirty is not wearing them.

Lol, this is why I stay away from white shoes! I would try a neutral cleaner on them that has no color to it. If that doesn't work you could always try DILUTED bleach but be careful! IT may discolor the shoes further.

Footlocker has great sneaker cleaner and protector. I use their waterproofer to help prevent dirty buildup and their cleaner to keep them looking good.
Do not use harsh detergents, abrasives, or bleach. They ruin the leather.

Use a toothbrush and maybe some soft soap to get rid of most of the dirtyness....
