impeller blades on water pump may be worn or serpentine belt that turns the pump may be loose. check belt tightness and/or replace water pump.

It is possible that the thermostat is sticking. With the engine cool, remove the radiator cap and see if you can see the coolant. Assuming that you have a radiator cap anymore. Good luck.
