2+2 is 2+2.

2+2 is not 4. 2+2 is standard mathematical notation for communicating the summation of the augend and addend, into a single number. 2 being the augend, and 2 being the addend, you can then determine that the ANSWER to the mathematical notation is 4...but the notation itself is not 4.

What you should have asked was.
"What is the sum of 2 and 2?
Then the answer would be 4.
