The only gain you would achieve is if the wall between your home and garage are not insulated. The garage itself acts as an insulator, but you do lose heat out the walls/roof if it is not.

USA There are benefits, but they are not huge financially. Insulating the exterior walls of the garage will help keep heat in, and help reduce the temperature variation, which will increase your comfort level. It will also create a thermal "buffer zone" between the garage and house. By helping to reduce temperature variation, you will not lose as much heat through the wall between the house and garage, reducing your energy bills (but not by hundreds of dollars per month).
It will make the garage - temperature wise - more comfortable. That might be important if you spend a lot of time out there.

If the roof or siding are metal insulation will help prevent condensation on the inside of the garage.

Unless there's a heat source, I doubt it'd make much difference in whether your car starts faster (our car stays outside and it starts just fine...just make sure your battery is in good shape, unless you live in Anchorage or something!). If you don't have a heat source, eventually, the temp in the garage will be the same as the outside, regardless of insulation.

Without the soffit vents and the air flowing through the house, you would have so much condensation on the top of your ceilings that are exposed in the attic. You will get wet spots and leaks throughout the house and it's no fun replacing drywall and repainting!
