I think that sometimes you have to make sure there is not another reason for their behaviour before any conclusions are made. However, after reading some of the question that are asked in yahoo answers, I have to think that many of these people are racist, stupid or just trying to start fights.

We all have prejudices within us. For example, alone the individual is open and spontaneous and unintimidated to be in the presence of others of another race. It usually is the peer pressure of one's own race that brings out the or stimulates the racial behavior. It can go from real lightweight racism, like social drinking to the all out transferrence of the insecurtities hiding behind the mask of racism that play the real third degree games.

Yes this has happened to me. I was once called a racist for looking up at someone when I thought they were looking at me.

I was chatting with male coworkers that I had worked with for seven years and I had to go back to work and said, 'you boys are a riot' and it was like time stood still because their expressions changed and they were shaking their heads and I said, 'what, what did I say?' and they said, you white people don't call us boys' and I said, 'ohmigod, I didn't mean to offend you. You call us in the office 'girls' all the time' and they said that was different. I was so upset because I really meant it with no disrespect and I started to cry and a black female coworker came over and said to them, 'you know her. you know she ain't like that.' and they said they knew but they still didn't like hearing it.
It hurt. It hurt because they immediately thought I finally showed them my *** when I know what it's like to be treated badly based on appearance and would never do it to someone else and they knew me for years and it didn't matter to them.

I agree, it has happened to me, and it is unfair to judge a book by its cover (sorry for the analogy)
