I have found out that the washer doesn't eat the socks. I have three kids and a husband. They don't always put there socks in the hamper and I end up washing only one of some of the pairs of socks. The socks that don't get cleaned end up under the bed, in the back of the closet or in the toy boxes.

If you have a high capacity washer you usually don't have a problem, but with a standard washer what happens is that the water rises almost to the top and light weight undergarments spill over and fall to the side of the basket that holds the clothes. If you were to disassemble the Washer you would likely find many undergarments to include underwear that you totally forgot about!!

They get sucked out of the TUB.
Go put your head in the washing machine. You might be able to see the very top rim of the tub. (don't poke your eye on the agitating thing poking out of the middle of the unit). The tub just a big bowl, so it does have a top edge. Socks can end up on the outside of this tub. If you're really unlucky, a sock can get sucked into the pump.

Those socks go to Lint Heaven and come back to haunt you in your dreams. I usually find them hiding inside a shirt or pair of pants, or behind the washer/dryer.

Get a mesh bag to put all your socks in when putting in the washer and they will all stay together.

I know where our socks go. My daughter´s dog eats them. I often found the odd sock in the trouser legs, but one day I had her dog here in my house. and caught the dog with sock in her mouth. so that´s what happens to our´s
