Definitely Jerry Lewis. No one beats him.

You can't rank comedy.
I love the 3 Stooges but I don't rate Robin Williams. The Marx Brothers were great but how do you compare them to Richard Pryor, Bill Hicks or for that matter the League of Gentlemen.

Most of those mentioned had their scripts written for them even if they had input.
How can you not even mention Bob Hope. His mind contained a store house of comedy, written by others or not. Mostly not.
I met him and others ask him to tell a joke. All he asked, "Name a subject". He was remarkable. And rarely did he need profanity, as many do. My vote to him.
Ever watch Comedy Central? Mostly profanity.
And Red Skeleton, hmmmm? I know they're gone and what a loss.
Bob Newhart is no slouch. Bill Cosby is another, although he doesn't do stand up any longer. Toughest act to perform.

Three Stooges? Just a bunch of Buster Keaton knock offs. Physical comedy has always bored me anyway, so I will have to go with Lewis Black, George Carlin, and Brian Regan.

Johnny Carson . . . and he was often times at his funniest when his material wasn't all that funny.
