Sure, sand can become finer by being broken down into smaller pieces.

Beach sand is pretty rough, if I recall correctly. Desert sand is pretty fine. River sand is also quite fine.

by erosion, sand can become smaller and smaller to become clay sized particles. But never completely disintegrate. The word sand means that the size of the particle is between 62um and 2mm. "sand" is only a description of size and not mineralogy. So sand can be made of anything and not just silica. The word clay is the same, it only describes grain size, so you can grind up sand fine enough to form clay.

As I say, anything's possible (don't delve further into that, please.) Besides the fact that the only stupid questoin is the one where you know the answer to it.

As that lithium guy said, but to the fact that I agrue, sand isn't disintergratable. However, if you find the right chemical, and not an acid, as that disintergrates everything (depending on the strength), with the opposite structure of the sand you want to disintergrate, sure, but I doubt it will come cheap....

It depends what you mean by "disintegrate".

Sand can be ground up into finer sand, certainly. Sand can be melted (turned into a liquid). Sand can be vaporized (turned into a gas).

It cannot, however, simply cease to exist.
