It's the baby pushing down on your cervix and your pelvic muscles moving to accommodate the baby to give birth. I used to get the worst pains in the two weeks before I had my baby. Walk as much as possible, it helps!!!

RE:
39 weeks pregnant....sharp pains?
Okay, so I'm 39 weeks pregnant. Everytime I stand up I have a sharp pain in my vaginal area. As soon as I sit down, however, these pains go away. What could this be??

if you find out, tell me. =) im 37 weeks pregnant and i get them, too.
a lot of people have told me that it's his head in position and he's hitting a nerve. (or she, whichever =)) but that's what i've been believing. it has to do with the baby being head down there.

I am also 39 weeks pregnant had have been experincing the same pain. It is because the baby has dropped and is now putting more pressure on your pelvic bone.

It's pressure from the baby. Maybe the baby has dropped into position for delivery. The baby can stay in this position for a couple of weeks. I had the same thing happen to me. Be careful when you laugh or sneeze, you could lose control of your bladder now.

I did the same thing. It wasn't anything serious. Just part of being late in the pregnancy. However, if you have cause to worry, you should contact your dr. asap.
Congratz!!

Pinched nerves, sore cervix, that sort of thing.
However, in most cases, at this point in your pregnancy it is caused by varicose veins in the vaginal area.
It will stop after the baby is born.
