Some of my old playgrounds were frequented by people whose hobbies included the use of "safe words." If in doubt of any particular encounter it's usually best to simply ask loudly if anyone needs help. If so, fetch the bouncer immediately.

I would go back into the store for a second, alert the personnel there, (so they can call the police) and then go back to see if there was something I could do to stop it.
