If something "does the trick" then it is successful in producing the desired outcome. Example: To remove chewing gum from a child's hair, using peanut butter does the trick.

We would have to know more of the context. However, it could mean that she was a prostitute, a cheap, fun date, an experience to never be forgotten, a joke, or perhaps half-a-dozen other things. Looking these possibilities over, I would say, depending on tone of voice, few are complimentary.
