ok we have the big walmart pool from last year. well if you have heard on the news texas has gotten alot of rain.well we had too turn the pump off cause of the high water and not wanting to be fried.anyway my pool is starting to turn green.even thugh its still raining off and on can i keep it from getting any greener pool cover ant working cause of all the rain so i just took it off.At this point i just wnt to take it down but kids dont.any help would work.heard bleach would work just dont know how much.

run the pump 24 hrs a day after you clean your filter and add sodium dichlor about 3 lbs to get a jump start on the algae problem . AFTER u kill the algae then you can vacuum the pool.IT WONT DO ANY GOOD TO VACUUM BEFORE

Pump off means no filtering, no circulation, and that means algae. But free-floating (green) is easy to kill. Shock with any chlorine (bleach IS chlorine) and run pump for at least 24 hours. One gallon of 6% laundry bleach (unscented) will get a 5000 gal pool up to 12 ppm... a reasonable shock. Make sure your Alkalinity and pH is in good range. The rain will mess up your pH and chlorine works best at 7.2 to 7.4.
If you absolutely can not run your pump, still shock and brush. You should go from green to dull blue and it'll be easier to clear up when you get that pump running. Don't forget to clean the filter.
PS: In the business 22 years. Laundry bleach is 6% sodium hypochlorite... pool liquid chlorine is 12% sodium hypochlorite. Same chemical, yet the misconception that bleach is "hard on you", but pool chlorine is "fine". Check http://www.poolsolutions.com/

No bleach, that will be hard on your skin. Go to a pool place and ask them. It may just need chlorine and a few other chemicals. Or you may need to dump it and start over again since you turned the pump off but I would ask a local pool/spa company.

Keep the pump on and add chemicals to fix it. Take a sample of water to your pool place. Keep the water level down so the filter will work.

green water is algae!!!
Visit your local pool store and get a bottle of Algaecide - it works to kill algae in your pool water. Also, SHOCK the pool with a chlorine shock used & marked for pool.
Please don't use bleach if your children will be swimming in the pool!!!!

well, u just said the reason yourself. you turned the pump off. when you turn the pump off, the filters stop working allowing algea to get into your pool.........thus turning it green. if that doesn't work, buy some shock. that usually helps.

You have algae from all the moisture.....you need to use Shock available at any pool store.
