Does this mean that you will still go to prison if you shoot one? Is it still protected as a national symbol?

Is the bald eagle any less an icon of American pride now that isn't as rare?

nickolassc: The articles that I read said that the bald eagle was removed from "threatened" status as well.

Yes, the Bald Eagle is still covered by the Bald Eagle Protection Act. It is unlawful to own anything derived from eagles, unless one is an enrolled member of a small number of First Nation tribes that use feathers and such in their religious practices.

Yes, you still go to prison if you shoot one. I'd say it's more of a symbol because they now reside in 49 states (the exception being Hawaii, as bald eagles are not tropical birds).

Now that they are no longer endangered. The RedsStater Wall St executive restaurants will take them off the menu.

It is still on the protected migratory bird list, so that and the fact that it is the national bird means it is still protected and illegal to shoot or injure.

You will still go to Prison,

It is still going to be on the "threatened species" list.

EDIT: My mistake. I am truly amazed that it was removed from threatened too. I guess this really is a day for celebration!
